The agreement, in plain language.
These terms are the agreement between you and Hollowine, and they cover the app and this website.
They are short. Nothing here is being sold to you and there is no paid tier, so most of what usually fills a document like this has nothing to do. What is left is worth reading, particularly the two parts about what Hollowine is not, and about what happens if you lose your key.
Parties
Hollowine is built and operated by Kamil Klofczynski, trading as hollowww.dev, based in Helsinki, Finland. Contact: me@hollowww.dev.
Nature of the service
Hollowine is not a medical device and is not therapy. It does not diagnose, treat or monitor any condition, nothing in it constitutes medical advice, and it is not a substitute for professional care.
Hollowine is not suitable for use in a crisis. In Finland, the Mental Health Finland crisis line is 09 2525 0111. Elsewhere in the EU, 112 reaches emergency services.
Eligibility and account access
You must be at least 13 years old to use Hollowine.
Signing in uses your email address and a one-time code. Anyone with access to that email account can sign in as you, so keeping it secure is your responsibility.
Encryption and data loss
Your village is encrypted on your device with a key held only by you. This carries a consequence that cannot be engineered away:
If you lose access to both your account and your recovery method, your data is permanently unrecoverable. It cannot be reset, recovered or decrypted for you, and no support process can retrieve it, because no key is held on the server. Keep your recovery information somewhere safe.
Cost
Hollowine is free to use. There is no paid tier, no advertising, and no sale of your data.
Availability and warranties
The service is provided on an as-is and as-available basis, without warranty of any kind. We do not warrant that it will be available without interruption, that it will be free of defects, or that data will not be lost through a defect, a device failure, or the act of a third party. Part of running the service means relying on infrastructure we do not operate ourselves - AWS and Expo (see the Privacy Policy for what each processes) - and an outage on their side is outside what we can promise around. Keeping your own backups of anything you cannot afford to lose remains your responsibility.
Liability
Because the service is provided free of charge, our liability to you is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer in the EU, your statutory rights are unaffected by this document.
Acceptable use
Use Hollowine lawfully and for your own use. You must not attempt to access other people's accounts, attack or disrupt the service, circumvent the technical measures protecting other users' data, or use the service to store or transmit unlawful material.
Your content
What you write inside your village remains yours. We claim no rights over it, and cannot read it.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using Hollowine at any time and delete your data from within the app. Deleting your account removes your village data from the server, subject to the backup window described in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or close an account that is attacking the service or being used unlawfully. Where an account is closed for any other reason, you will be given the reason and an opportunity to resolve it.
If Hollowine is discontinued, you will be given advance notice and a means of continuing to use the app offline.
Changes to these terms
Where these terms change materially, the change will be announced rather than published quietly, and you will have the opportunity to stop using the service before it takes effect. The date below identifies the version you are reading.
Governing law
These terms are governed by Finnish law. If you are a consumer, you retain the protection of the mandatory law of your country of residence and may bring proceedings in your local courts.
